N\u00e9 en 1929, Erhard a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 le graphisme avant de commencer sa carri\u00e8re de designer chez Opel. Il est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 avant tout comme le p\u00e8re de l&#8217;Opel GT, ce n&#8217;est pas rien ! L\u2019offre de carrosserie deux portes avec hayon ou avec coffre sur certains march\u00e9s est enrichie, d\u00e8s 1985, par l\u2019ajout de la silhouette cinq portes.
