C&#8217;est l\u00e0 que les designers ont laiss\u00e9 place aux a\u00e9rodynamiciens, afin d&#8217;\u00e9viter d&#8217;arracher les cheveux du pilote de l&#8217;Elva, jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 au moins 115 km\/h. Consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme la premi\u00e8re &#8220;vraie&#8221; McLaren, la M1A \u00e9tait une sportive \u00e0 ch\u00e2ssis tubulaire dot\u00e9e de suspensions ind\u00e9pendantes, de quatre freins \u00e0 disque et du V8 Oldsmobile de 310 ch. Elle fit sa premi\u00e8re apparition en septembre 1964 au Grand Prix de Mosport. Son cr\u00e9ateur, Bruce McLaren, s&#8217;\u00e9tait qualifi\u00e9 en 1\u00e8re ligne et termina cette course sur le podium, \u00e0 la troisi\u00e8me place.
