As announced in the press release, Citro\u00ebn is inaugurating &#8220;a new brand identity&#8221;. These gears were &#8220;double toothed&#8221;, forming a chevron, also called a &#8220;corporal&#8217;s stripe&#8221;. An industrialist at heart, he acquired the patent for the manufacture of these gears, which were particularly quiet in operation, unlike the systems in vogue at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"692\" src=\"http:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_03-1024x692.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25989\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_03-1024x692.png 1024w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_03-300x203.png 300w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_03-768x519.png 768w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_03.png 1417w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Citro\u00ebn demonstrated the skills of a well-informed industrialist from an early age! He quickly added the desire to innovate. Instead of machining gears from cast iron, as was the case at the Warsaw site, he decided to cut them from steel. The company he created on his return to France had to invent machine tools capable of machining this material and this \u00ab&nbsp;chevron&nbsp;\u00bb (herringbone) tooth concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"756\" src=\"http:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_07-1024x756.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25990\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_07-1024x756.png 1024w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_07-300x221.png 300w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_07-768x567.png 768w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/LOGO_07.png 1417w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">In 1901, he installed these new machines in a workshop at 202 rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis in Paris. These workshops were gigantic, as were the gears machined here. These parts with their &#8220;double-chevron&#8221; teeth would even be housed in the bowels of the Titanic&#8217;s (below) engine room! But before the birth of this ephemeral sea giant, Andr\u00e9 Citro\u00ebn moved to the Quai de Grenelle in 1910 where he set up his company &#8220;Citro\u00ebn &#8211; Hinstin et Cie&#8221;. He joined forces with two former schoolmates, including Paul Hinstin. The company was soon renamed &#8220;Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Anonyme des Engrenages Citro\u00ebn&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"674\" src=\"http:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/TITANIC-1024x674.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25996\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/TITANIC-1024x674.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/TITANIC-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/TITANIC-768x506.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/TITANIC.jpg 1417w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">It was during these same years that Andr\u00e9 Citro\u00ebn was called upon to help the Automobiles Mors company. It was the First World War that disrupted the French industrialist&#8217;s plans. During this dark period, he produced millions of shells in his new factory on the Quai de Javel before, as we know, turning to automobile production in 1919. What is less well known is that the Citro\u00ebn gear company is still very much in business! More than ten years later, in 1977, &#8220;Citro\u00ebn-Messian&#8221; became &#8220;Citro\u00ebn-Messian-Durand&#8221; after Citro\u00ebn bought the Durand company in Nevers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"798\" src=\"http:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/MESSIAN-1024x798.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25998\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/MESSIAN-1024x798.png 1024w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/MESSIAN-300x234.png 300w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/MESSIAN-768x598.png 768w, https:\/\/lignesauto.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/MESSIAN.png 1417w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">The arrival of Peugeot and the formation of the PSA group reshuffled the deck. In 1991, CMD (&#8220;Citro\u00ebn-Messian-Durand&#8221;) was sold by the French automotive group to the company Dynaction-Mecadyne. &#8220;Citro\u00ebn-Messian-Durand&#8221; finally became part of the CIF group (Compagnie Industrielle et Financi\u00e8re de Bussy) in 2005.
