La structure du pneu\/ h\u00e9lice, elle, tourne autour de cette partie par l\u00e9vitation magn\u00e9tique\u00a0! Mais elle n\u2019est pas utopique. Pour autant, je ne peux pas vous dire quand on pourra commercialiser ce concept. Mais c\u2019est une solution envisageable dans ce contexte d\u2019\u00e9volution de notre mobilit\u00e9 quotidienne\u2026\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Revenons sur terre et en 2019. C\u2019est quoi le m\u00e9tier de designer chez un pneumaticien\u00a0?<br \/>\n<\/strong>F.Ngo\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Notre travail quotidien est de concevoir le design des bandes de roulement et des flancs pour tous les produits de notre gamme, qu\u2019ils concernent les automobiles, les motos ou les poids-lourds.\u00a0Le designer se focalise avant tout sur la bande de roulement, il interagit avec de nombreux d\u00e9partements, principalement avec les ing\u00e9nieurs.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le designer a vraiment son mot \u00e0 dire dans l\u2019\u00e9laboration d\u2019un pneumatique\u00a0?<br \/>\n<\/strong>F.Ngo.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Absolument\u00a0! Le designer intervient m\u00eame au tout d\u00e9but d\u2019un programme et du processus de cr\u00e9ation. On vient alors avec notre propre vision du pneu, de sa bande de roulement et de ses flancs. Avec les connaissances et l\u2019exp\u00e9rience que nous avons accumul\u00e9es, nous sommes capables d\u2019intervenir d\u00e8s le lancement du projet avec des designs qui fonctionnent bien par rapport au cahier des charges.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>J\u2019imagine que comme pour le produit automobile, une s\u00e9lection est alors effectu\u00e9e\u00a0?<br \/>\n<\/strong>F.Ngo.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Oui. On d\u00e9veloppe notre projet en collaboration avec tous les services et on r\u00e9alise les premi\u00e8res it\u00e9rations avec nos propositions. L\u00e0, il y a \u00e9videmment un travail effectu\u00e9 avec tous les ing\u00e9nieurs des mat\u00e9riaux, de la construction, production\u2026 On \u00e9tablit alors une s\u00e9lection dans tous les dessins propos\u00e9s pour opter pour les propositions qui ont le plus de potentiel et qui r\u00e9pondent au mieux \u00e0 la demande initiale.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le design est une motivation d\u2019achat tr\u00e8s forte pour une voiture. C\u2019est la m\u00eame chose pour un pneu\u00a0?<br \/>\n<\/strong>F.Ngo.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Le design d\u2019un pneumatique est important pour la perception qu\u2019en a le client. Mais regardez le concept-car que nous avons expos\u00e9 sur le stand \u00e0 l\u2019occasion du salon de Gen\u00e8ve. Cette \u2018Golden Sahara 2\u2019 est dot\u00e9e de pneumatiques lumineux\u00a0! Goodyear avait alors cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00e0 la charni\u00e8re des ann\u00e9es 1950\/1960 un pneumatique transparent avec un mat\u00e9riau d\u00e9di\u00e9, le Neothane. Le but \u00e9tait de cr\u00e9er un pneu pour ce concept-car qui embarquait les pr\u00e9mices de la voiture autonome. But it&#8217;s good for him, it&#8217;s his job. He is a digital and physical modeller at the heart of Goodyear&#8217;s innovation centre, a centre based in Luxembourg that works for Europe, but also for the Middle East, Asia and Africa. At the Geneva Motor Show, we met him to talk to us about the Aero concept.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LIGNES\/auto: A propeller, a small tread&#8230; What is this Aero concept ?<\/strong><br \/>\nFr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Ngo: &#8220;It&#8217;s a two-in-one concept for tomorrow&#8217;s autonomous flying vehicles. It&#8217;s both a tire for the road and a propeller for flying!\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>You&#8217;re replacing a drone&#8217;s propellers, actually ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF.Ngo: &#8220;We wanted to use our experience and knowledge in non-pneumatic structures to offer a product that is both flexible to run and solid to play the role of the propeller.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are you going to kill the previous concepts of flying modules proposed by Italdesign and Airbus ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF.Ngo: &#8220;Our concept greatly simplifies this vision since we have only one module to fly or drive, without constraint and without having to change modules&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Explain to us how this can work ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF. Ngo: &#8220;Part of the system is fixed to the transport module. The structure of the tire\/propeller, on the other hand, rotates around this part by magnetic levitation ! There is no friction, no physical connection between the tire and the hub.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>You&#8217;re propelling us into a very distant future, aren&#8217;t you ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF.Ngo: &#8220;This concept initiated by Goodyear is a response to the evolution of future mobility. But it is not utopian. However, I cannot tell you when we will be able to commercialize this concept. But it is a possible solution in this context of the evolution of our daily mobility&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let us come back to earth and in 2019. What is the job of a tyre designer in a tyre manufacturer ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF.Ngo: &#8220;Our daily work is to design the treads and sidewalls for all the products in our range, whether they concern cars, motorcycles or trucks.\u00a0The designer focuses primarily on the tread, interacting with many departments, mainly with engineers.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does the designer really have a say in the development of a tyre ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF. Ngo.\u00a0&#8220;Absolutely! The designer even intervenes at the very beginning of a program and the creative process. We then come up with our own vision of the tire, its tread and sidewalls. With the knowledge and experience we have accumulated, we are able to intervene from the beginning of the project with designs that work well in relation to the specifications.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>I imagine that as for the automotive product, a selection is then made ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF. Ngo. &#8220;Yes, we develop our project in collaboration with all the departments and carry out the first iterations with our proposals. There, there is obviously work done with all the engineers in materials, construction, production&#8230; We then establish a selection in all the drawings proposed to choose the proposals that have the most potential and that best meet the initial demand.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Design is a very strong motivation to buy a car. Is it the same for a tire ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF. Ngo.\u00a0&#8220;The design of a tyre is important for the customer&#8217;s perception of it. The design of the tread but also the sidewalls must express its characteristics, such as performance for example.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>The tire will definitely stay black ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF. Ngo.\u00a0&#8220;Now we should ask the engineers! But look at the concept car that we exhibited on the stand at the Geneva Motor Show. This &#8220;Golden Sahara 2&#8243; is equipped with bright tires ! At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, Goodyear created a transparent tyre with a dedicated material, Neothane. The aim was to create a tyre for this concept car that embarked on the beginnings of the autonomous car. Our product then ensured maximum safety, it could even flash when the car changed direction !&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you work for specific tires for concept cars ?<\/strong><br \/>\nF. Ngo: &#8220;It is part of our work, yes.
