Le belge Pierre Leclerq, alors responsable design Kia en Cor\u00e9e, est en r\u00e9union \u00e0 Francfort dans le studio de design de Kia Europe. Coup de chance, le match France-Belgique de la coupe du Monde de football a lieu cette semaine-l\u00e0. Un match que Pierre ne raterait pour rien au monde. Pourtant, son esprit est sans doute ailleurs&#8230; <i>\u00ab\u00a0Cette semaine-l\u00e0 je suis effectivement \u00e0 Francfort pour Kia. Je sors de la r\u00e9union pour prendre un vol en direction de la Belgique pour voir le match \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9 et, \u00e0 ma descente d\u2019avion, j\u2019ai un message de Jean-Pierre Plou\u00e9 me demandant de venir le voir car Alexandre Malval &#8211; alors directeur du design Citro\u00ebn- est en partance et il veut me\u00a0proposer le poste. Il ne s\u2019en souvient pas ! Il m\u2019avait dit qu\u2019il avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 embauch\u00e9 les designers pour compl\u00e9ter son \u00e9quipe. Il m\u2019a alors propos\u00e9 de rejoindre le studio Ghia de Ford en Italie.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pr\u00e8s de vingt ans apr\u00e8s, vous voil\u00e0 de nouveaux face-\u00e0-face\u00a0!<br \/>\n<\/strong>P.L.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Oui, j\u2019ai pris l\u2019avion apr\u00e8s le match France-Belgique pour le retrouver \u00e0 Paris et il ne pouvait me faire qu\u2019une belle offre\u00a0apr\u00e8s la d\u00e9faite de la Belgique 1-0\u00a0!!\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Entre l\u2019appel t\u00e9l\u00e9phonique et le rendez-vous, \u00e7a doit mouliner un peu dans votre t\u00eate\u00a0?<br \/>\n<\/strong>P.L\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0\u00c7a mouline d\u2019autant plus que chez Kia, je savais que j\u2019allais prendre la t\u00eate du design de la marque sur le plan mondial. Le choix \u00e9tait difficile. Il m\u2019a \u00e9voqu\u00e9 les points positifs et n\u00e9gatifs. Citro\u00ebn a quand m\u00eame une gamme assez exceptionnelle. Le boulot de reconstruction fait par Alexandre Malval et ses \u00e9quipes ont b\u00e2ti une marque plus forte, mais elle est encore fragile sous certains aspects, il reste encore beaucoup \u00e0 faire.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Votre d\u00e9marche sera celle de l\u2019\u00e9volution ou de la r\u00e9volution\u00a0?<br \/>\n<\/strong>P.L.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Clairement, la r\u00e9volution\u00a0! C\u2019est l\u2019\u00e9norme avantage d\u2019\u00eatre dans une marque fran\u00e7aise. Toutes les marques sur la plan\u00e8te ne se donnent pas cette chance de faire une r\u00e9volution. Et donc, ce devrait continuer&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Un nouveau patron de style a tendance \u00e0 vouloir imposer sa griffe&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/strong>P.L.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0J\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 retravailler des projets en cours en respectant le dessin du designer et avec ma touche personnelle qui est forc\u00e9ment diff\u00e9rente de celle d\u2019Alexandre Malval. On est tous diff\u00e9rents, mais on n\u2019est pas seul. On est en \u00e9quipe. Pour les boulots \u00e0 venir, mon travail d\u2019ici la fin de l\u2019ann\u00e9e sera de proposer \u00e0 Jean-Pierre et \u00e0 la direction, des projets pour r\u00e9inventer la marque, des voitures que j\u2019aurais pouss\u00e9es tr\u00e8s loin, en esp\u00e9rant convaincre&#8230;\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>De nouvelles identit\u00e9 ou de vrais concepts ?<br \/>\n<\/strong>P.L.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Ce sont des propositions d\u2019identit\u00e9s diff\u00e9rentes mais aussi des concept-cars internes.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c7a ressemble \u00e0 la d\u00e9marche du duo Besson-Plou\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019entame des ann\u00e9es 2000, lorsque le design concevait toutes sortes d\u2019OVNI hors du pan produit, notamment les trois mod\u00e8les de la \u00ab\u00a0ligne DS\u00a0\u00bb de l\u2019\u00e9poque\u00a0!<br \/>\n<\/strong>P.L.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Il y a toujours de la place pour des projets qui viennent du design. Ce sont les plus beaux projets\u00a0! Si je regarde en arri\u00e8re, lors de mon passage chez BMW, le seul v\u00e9hicule qui n\u2019\u00e9tait pas au plan produit, c\u2019est le X6 que j\u2019ai dessin\u00e9 (ci-dessous). Pour autant, mon travail en 2019, ce n\u2019est pas forc\u00e9ment de faire \u00ab\u00a0passer\u00a0\u00bb des produits. Le but est de r\u00e9inventer le langage formel du style Citro\u00ebn ou encore l\u2019identit\u00e9 de la marque en allant beaucoup plus loin. Le design Citro\u00ebn d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui et de demain, c\u2019est moins de lignes et plus de muscles, c\u2019est un long travail sur les surfaces, c\u2019est quelque chose qu\u2019on veut garder, c\u2019est la philosophie Citro\u00ebn. CXperience est une belle histoire. On a pu retravailler quelques d\u00e9tails car le th\u00e8me \u00e9tait l\u00e0.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quel est le concept-car qui vous a marqu\u00e9 dans l\u2019histoire r\u00e9cente de la marque\u00a0?<br \/>\n<\/strong>P.L.\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Je dirais la C-M\u00e9tisse de 2006 (une maquette tr\u00f4ne dans son bureau). Quand j\u2019ai vu cette voiture, elle m\u2019a impressionn\u00e9. On a senti, m\u00eame en travaillant \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur de l\u2019entreprise, qu\u2019il allait se passer quelque chose de tr\u00e8s fort avec l\u2019arriv\u00e9e de Jean-Pierre Plou\u00e9. Tout d\u00e9pend \u00e9videmment du plan produit ou encore de l\u2019endroit o\u00f9 l\u2019on veut le pr\u00e9senter&#8230;\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Linda Jackson a annonc\u00e9 que le second concept-car du centenaire serait justement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 au salon Vivatech le 16 mai prochain. Vous l\u2019avez d\u00e9couvert avec Ami One. Quelle a \u00e9t\u00e9 votre r\u00e9action\u00a0?<br \/>\n<\/strong>P.L.\u00a0:\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Ami One et le concept du salon Vivatech, ce sont deux voitures que j\u2019ai trouv\u00e9es fantastiques. C\u2019est g\u00e9nial d\u2019avoir ces voitures l\u00e0 pour notre centenaire car ce sont des voitures qui ont une histoire \u00e0 raconter. Je pense que l\u2019Ami One est un projet qui sortait du lot parce que ce n\u2019est pas seulement du style. Je ne dirais pas que c\u2019est lourd \u00e0 porter parce qu\u2019on n\u2019y pense pas en fait. En tous cas, j\u2019ai bien conscience de la responsabilit\u00e9 que j\u2019ai au sein d\u2019une marque aussi importante. He doesn&#8217;t remember ! He told me that he had already hired the designers to complete his team. He then offered me the opportunity to join Ford&#8217;s Ghia studio in Italy.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Almost twenty years later, here you are again face-to-face !<\/strong><br \/>\nP.L.: &#8220;Yes, I flew after the France-Belgium match to meet him in Paris and he could only make me a nice offer after the defeat of Belgium 1-0 !\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Between the phone call and the appointment, it was complicated in your head\u00a0?<\/strong><br \/>\nP.L: &#8220;Yes, especially since at Kia, I knew I was going to take the lead in the brand&#8217;s design on a global level. At Citro\u00ebn, yes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A new style boss tends to want to impose his brand&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\nP.L.: &#8220;I started to work on ongoing projects while respecting the designer&#8217;s drawing and with my personal touch, which is necessarily different from that of Alexandre Malval. We&#8217;re all different, but we&#8217;re not alone. We&#8217;re a team. For the jobs to come, my work until the end of the year will be to propose to Jean-Pierre and the management, projects to reinvent the brand, cars that I would have pushed very far, hoping to convince&#8230;\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>New identities or real concepts ?<\/strong><br \/>\nP.L.: &#8220;These are proposals of different identities but also internal concept cars.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>It looks like the approach of the Besson-Plou\u00e9 duo at the beginning of the 2000&#8217;s, when the design conceived all kinds of UFOs outside the product panel, including the three models of the &#8220;DS line&#8221; of the time !<\/strong><br \/>\nP.L.: &#8220;There is always room for projects that come from design. These are the most beautiful projects! If I look back, when I was at BMW, the only vehicle that wasn&#8217;t in the product plan was the X6 I designed. However, my job in 2019 is not necessarily to &#8220;pass&#8221; products. The aim is to reinvent the formal language of the Citro\u00ebn style or the brand identity by going much further. A style that you will perpetuate ?<\/strong><br \/>\nP.L.: &#8220;Yes, and that&#8217;s extremely important because it&#8217;s where we stand out from other brands, especially the group&#8217;s other brands. Citro\u00ebn design today and tomorrow means fewer lines and more muscles, it&#8217;s a long work on surfaces, it&#8217;s something we want to keep, it&#8217;s the Citro\u00ebn philosophy. But it is obviously more complex to deal with.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you had time to work on the car that will come out of the CXperience concept car ?<\/strong><br \/>\nP.L. : &#8220;When the beauty of a concept car is well perceived, the concept necessarily influences the series. CXperience is a great story. You discovered it with Ami One. What was your reaction ?<\/strong><br \/>\nP.L.: &#8220;Ami One and the Vivatech concept are two cars that I found fantastic. It&#8217;s great to have these cars for our centenary because they are cars that have a story to tell. I think that Ami One is a project that stood out because it&#8217;s not just about style. It is intelligent, it advances thinking on mobility as the 2CV did in its time.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Since the DS born in 1955, almost 64 years ago, you have been the ninth person in charge of the Citro\u00ebn style (*).
