Internationally renowned painter and sculptor Thomas Scheibitz (above) has enhanced the BMW i8 of his friend Bernd Heusinger. His work was not commissioned by BMW and is therefore not part of the BMW Art Car series. BMW is committed to this point of detail, which is not a detail ! Rather, it is an independent work that was first presented to the public on May 18 at the Scheibitz workshop in Berlin.<\/p>\n

Born in 1968 in Radeberg, near the city of Dresden, the artist considers sports cars as sculptures conceived as “the dynamic result of a synthesis of technology and creativity”<\/em>. When asked about his experimental work, Thomas Scheibitz stated that “traditional sculptural concerns such as visual perspectives, detailed imagery, spatial perspectives, relief qualities, symmetry and illusion were the starting points of my design.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Thomas Scheibitz is known for playing with various references in his paintings and sculptures, which are often very colourful. He used the dynamic flow of the i8 lines designed by Frenchman Beno\u00eet Jacob to play with the futuristic surface of this bodywork. The artist develops this idea by creating a visual dialogue between the innovative carbon structure and the texture of the traditional canvas. “The greatest possible precision, combined with the greatest possible openness of mind,”<\/em> he once said of his work, and this principle also applies here.<\/p>\n

After a solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bonn, Scheibitz presented numerous paintings and sculptures in 2018 as part of “The Hunter in the Snow” presented by the Spr\u00fcth Magers Gallery in Los Angeles. From 11 September 2019 to 31 January 2020, the Nationalgalerie der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin will host “Picasso\/Scheibitz”, a special exhibition at the Berggruen Museum, featuring over 40 works by each artist.<\/p>\n
