As Porsche prepares to unveil its Taycan, the first of a new 100% electric era (and therefore witnessing an unimaginable transformation only a decade ago), LIGNES/auto looks back at some of the German brand’s events. This section opens the chapter of a presentation that approaches with one of the Taycan prototypes on the Nürburgring circuit for a silent lap but that panics the clock !
On the Nürburgring, Porsche has just set new standards in the category of 100% electric four-door sports cars. In 7 minutes and 42 seconds, test pilot Lars Kern set a category record on the 20.6 kilometre course. This time was done with a pre-series Porsche Taycan.
“The Porsche Taycan is also designed for the track and has proven it convincingly on the world’s toughest track,” says Kern. “I am always impressed by the stability of the car in high-speed sections, such as Kesselchen, and by the neutrality with which it accelerates in narrow sections, such as Adenauer Forst. »
“The Taycan has superbly mastered her triple endurance race. First of all, our electric sports car has demonstrated the reproducibility of its performance in a rigorous test involving 26 successive accelerations from zero to 200 km/h. It then covered 3,425 kilometres in 24 hours in Nardò, without any problems, and this is the record for the Nürburgring-Nordschleife,” explains Stefan Weckbach, Vice President of the Taycan product line, “Many factors contribute to this performance and the efficiency of the powertrain, even at high speeds. These include chassis systems that react in a fraction of a second and exceptional aerodynamics.”

It should be remembered that the Taycan has two electric motors on the front and rear axles and therefore has all-wheel drive. The integrated Porsche “4D-Chassis Control” analyzes and synchronizes all chassis systems in real time. Chassis systems include an adaptive three-chamber air suspension with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) electronic damping control, as well as the electromechanical Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) roll stabilization system, including the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus). The car, which broke all records, was also equipped with a rear axle steering and 21-inch tires.
The Porsche Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric cars. The profile of the new Taycan’s driving modes offers special settings to take advantage of the properties of 100% electric. In Sport Plus mode, driver requests are implemented in an extremely dynamic way. Therefore, the cooling and heating strategy of the battery has been designed for maximum performance. At the same time, the cooling air flaps open, the rear spoiler is extended very early, while the chassis is optimized for maximum performance on the track, and the suspension is continuously adjusted to the lowest position.
