Ford unveiled its new Puma model, which has nothing to do with its eponymous coupe, marketed from 1997 to 2002, since it is now a small sporty SUV that attacks a segment that is now very crowded.
The Ford Puma is indeed an SUV B2, it competes with the 2008 Peugeot, Citroën C3 Aircross and other Renault Captur to evoke only the French models !
This newcomer relies above all on its dynamic design, which some already compare to that of a Porsche ! It is based on a Ford Fiesta base with increased wheelbase and front and rear tracks , which allows designers to create a very sculpted and dynamic volume, even if it has had to keep quite a few “hard points” from the small Ford sedan. Starting with the windshield and awning bay.
The whole is perfectly mastered and its relative conservatism is in opposition to the style cut with the serpentine of the new 2008 Peugeot below.
Ford is playing the dynamic and is also moving away from the Citroën C3 Aircross. This dynamism is achieved thanks to a contained height, vertically positioned optics (they follow the style of those of the GT !) while the generous curves are sculpted in such a way as to nicely cover the track widths, although the passenger compartment almost keeps the width of the Fiesta’s.
Ford emphasizes a generous trunk (only the C3 Picasso does better) equipped with a “tank” under the trunk floor, with a capacity of 80 litres, which has a cap to drain water from a possible washing of this miracle cavity….
Rather than remain complacent in front of this kind of sink installed in the trunk, LIGNES/auto offers you the official video of the design development of this new small SUV that challenges the segment’s offer but also the manufacturer’s offer. Ford certainly arrives very late in this segment of the “SUV/B2” but its proposal, without being revolutionary, assumes its dynamic side while not neglecting its practical aspects.
